Visiting the village of Ilgaz , we came across this fantastic bistro. The ambience, cozy setting, lovely and warm, Hosts Lydia and Ibo. Food presentation perfect and tasty. Can’t wait to visit again when we return to Cyprus. Great value for money....the warm chocolate and orange brownie for dessert to die for!
Ibo makes the best Adana in Cyprus, bar none. Careful how much chilli you ask for as I am sure Guy Fawkes would have required no gunpowder for Parliamentary demolition had he had access to the home-dried version used. Caution required. Or a fire extinguisher!! A super friendly little restaurant in a lovely spot with great staff.. Always a pleasure to visit.
Nice friendly place
Good food at very reasonable prices, owners are very welcoming and helpful. Mains 40 to 50 lira with the best wedgie chips you will find anywhere, HUGE fish portions. Beer 12l and brandy sours 20l quirky outside space and nice and clean dining room.
Lovely restaurant with great food
Found this restaurant when staying at the Gillham Vineyard hotel which is just round the corner. Lovely find - great food (the sis kebab especially) and drink. Customer service was also great. All in all, highly recommended for both lunch and dinner.
Stayed at Gillham Vineyard for one week, amazing place, beautiful rooms, food very good. Dining every night at Gillham would have been too much so tried Hoots, so pleased we did. Lydia and Ebo great hosts. Food was very good, the chicken shish which everyone raves about was so good, as was the fish shish. The portions are large but what I couldn't finish, my husband could. I booked kleftico 24hrs in advance and Lydia ordered in a t-bone for my husband, both were fantastic. Would love to come back and stay in one of the two rooms they have.
Very large portions
We had a very nice meal in very pleasant surroundings and the hosts were lovely.
My only gripe was that the portions were so large I couldn't finish my meal and I hate leaving food .Wouldn't hesitate to go again if we were staying in the area.
Great view, great fun and great food!
I stayed in one of the delightful rooms at this gorgeous place and dined here every night! The food is fresh and delicious. The deserts are wonderful. The restaurant is charming and nicely laid out. You can get cosy in a corner or sit and gaze out at the view. The hosts, Ibo and Lydia, bring a new high level to warm and welcoming. When you go please say hello to Bluey from me.
Only 61 out of 455???
How is this lovely bar and restaurant only rated as number 61 on Trip Advisor? I can only think it is because it is off the beaten track but absolutely worth a visit
Lydia and Ibrahim are wonderful owners of this bistro and supported by a really nice English couple.
As the other reviews have stated the food is really good with the Chicken Sis and Chunky chips being our favourite.
Quiz night is fun with all the ex pats very welcoming.
We were staying at the very posh Gillham Vineyard Hotel but visited Hoots on three occasions because of the food and service we received.
I cannot recommend this little rustic gem high enough.
Home from home
So here you are, loving the 5* luxury of a boutique hotel. It's all fabulous darling, but hard to connect with. You're isolated in a glossy tourist bubble. Breakout and find Hoots if you are near Kyrenia. It's super friendly, super authentic, quirky and a bit rustic, but that's exactly what you're looking for.
The food is fabulous: wholesome, local, comforting, real. The chicken sis is the best ever, and the adana minced beef kebab is amazing, ask for it spicey if you like chilli. All washed down with cold Efes and excellent wine at a price which is just as good. It's so much fun you'll find yourself staying with the locals for a drink at the bar or just enjoying the view and the sunset. Congratulations Lydia and Ibrahim on opening an authentic little treasure. Pop the tourist bubble and feel like a local. Connect with the real spirit of northern Cyprus.
We visited Hoots this week for supper and were pleasantly surprised. Hidden away in the village of ILgaz, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Our meals were really good. Nice sized portions and the chunky chips delicious. I had the Kalamari and my partner the Beef Sis. Well presented and delicious. We will be going back
Amazing little Gem
Well what can I say about this place 10/10.
We would highly,y recommend this place to anyone.
The hosts were so friendly and helpful.
Ibo cooked us an amazing meal and his wife Lydia was soooo friendly we chatted most of the afternoon.
Excellent place excellent food and excellent hosts .....we will definitely be back
the owners used to have cafe cafe in lapta and then blue door in alsancak. now they are at hoots. hoots is a little out of the way but worth the drive up.
the chef makes the best chicken sis. delicious with large chunks of meat
service friendly and very efficient.
We spent a lovely evening at Hoots Bistro food absolutely beautiful fantastic atmosphere and decor really lovely staff so helpful and inviting We stayed for the table quiz and had so much fun with a bunch of friendly fun people
Where to begin. The welcome we received on our first visit from Lydia and the team made us feel immediately at home. The table service was more like being in their house, a unique experience. The food is not just tasty but beautifully presented. Thank you Carole and hubby for being so attentive. I cannot recommend this venue higher
We had a wonderful family meal at hoots, the surroundings were wonderful the staff were friendly the food was delicious and the parott birds, dogs and fish kept the kids occupied, plus on tuesday there is a table quiz which was very enjoyable.
The Best Chicken Sis Ever!
The best chicken sis ever!! We were lucky enough to have this wonderful restaurant on our doorstep from our villa in Ilgaz. The food, setting, service and people are all excellent. We visited on several occasions during our stay, we just couldn’t stay away! Lydia and Ibrahim, the owners, are so welcoming and not forgetting the lovely Alex too. For excellent food and service in a relaxed and friendly environment you just can’t beat it. We will miss this place but hope to go back some time. If you are in the area you have to give this place a go. Oh and you must try Lydia’s delicious lemon cheesecake
We were staying just down the road and were beginning to feel isolated, until we wandered out and found this place. A real piece of local hostelery set in a very pleasant enclosed courtyard/garden. You always get a greeting from the owners 3 dogs and a very vocal Parrot. Having been charged ridiculous prices where we were staying, we thoroughly enjoyed eating and drinking at proper North Cyprus prices. Food is excellent, we tried Fish and chips and the Calamari. Both plentiful and tasty. They also do a mean gin & tonic and offer good quality wine. Well worth a visit.
Hoots Bistro is situated in the small village of Ilgaz less then ten minutes drive off the main Kyrenia to Lapta road and well worth the drive.
We stopped for a drink in the pleasant and shady courtyard and decided to have lunch, a good decision. I had the chicken shish which was very good, served with rice, coleslaw, salad and a few tasty homemade fries. My partner had a homemade burger and declared it excellent. Both meals were filling and well presented.
We enjoyed our visit so much that we decided to come back for their Tuesday evening quiz, good job we arrived by the 6.30pm start as it's very popular with the 'locals'. You can order something to eat before the quiz starts and it's served during the half time break.
We didn't win but enjoyed the evening and were made to feel welcome by the staff and 'quizers' alike. Will be back again next year!
Best bistro in town
Really lovely place, lovely family who run it and the food is excellent. Really good value for money. I would definetly recommend this to Anybody, I have been lots if times and always had a lovely meal.
Fab food, fun quiz on tuesday
We attended their weekly quiz on Tuesday evenings. Which at half time had food options from their menu, great value. Food was fresh and tasty, can't wait to go back and sample their full menu. Staff couldn't do enough, and the stunning courtyard with beautiful bright umbrellas provide welcomed shade from the sun. The 5 min drive is well worth the drive up to the lovely village of ilgaz. Well worth the visit you won't be disappointed
It was Sunday & the restaurant was very nearly fully booked for Sunday lunch but the accommodating owners set up a table for us nonetheless.
We enjoyed hearty servings of their famous prawn kiev and chicken si (I think - a huge chicken skewer) amongst other dishes.
Lovely setting and a warm welcome awaits if you are in the area
Beautiful village location and excellent service
Visited Hoots Bistro several times while staying in the area. Very welcoming and adapted the menu to cater for my dietary restrictions. Food was excellent and we had a chance to eat both inside and in the lovely terrace area. Certainly one to recommend
A Hidden Gem
I went for Sunday Lunch and it was lovely. I had Prawn Kiev to start, then beef served
with vegetables, yorkshire pudding, separate gravy in a jug. Then apple crumble with ice cream.
You can order two courses 85tl or three courses 100tl. Its a warm (log fire) cosy place.Nice friendly relaxed atmosphere.Paul is a charismatic waiter. It really is a hidden gem in the village of Ilgaz just past the vineyard.Dont miss it!
Had a great experience having dinner which was lovely, and the staff was even better. Will definitely go back any chance I get!
Nice and cosy
This place is very cosy, good food, and very friendly staff. Good for a meal or if you fancy just going for a drink
A “must” to visit - Wonderful relaxing setting
This place has been turned around by the new owners. The setting is lovely and the food is amazing. Their Prawn Kiev starter is to die for !!! The food is fabulous, the staff are friendly and the toilets are really clean. ( a big must for me !)
Can’t wait for the summer to cone so I can sit outside in the fabulous court yard. Also they are refurbishing two rooms to offer accommodation. Can’t wait to see them finished to the really high standard. Might even book a night to stay, even though I only live 10 minutes away. !!
Freshly cooked food in a beautiful setting
We had the calmari and prawns to start which were both amazing and perfectly cooked. Then followed by the lasagne and mousacca which were both on the specials menu. All served by the friendly young handsome English man. This place is welcoming comfortable and friendly and serves some of the best food in the island. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it is our new favourite place to eat in the north.
Beautifully cooked Roast Dinner with choice of Beef, Lamb and Chicken. Good selection of freshly cooked vegetables including my favourite red cabbage.
Good selection of home cooked starters and desserts. Service is friendly but professional.
Nice ambiance in restaurant with a log fire and tables not to close together
Looking forward to visiting in the summer and using the patio.
One small comment the restaurant is in Ilgaz in the District of Kyrenia not actually Kyrenia
Def will be back
A hidden gem
Great food, fabulous setting and fantastically friendly staff! Definitely going to be coming here again.
Great setting, better food
Having visited the owners previous restaraunt I was excited to visit Hoots. The food is as good as before (chicken sis is the best on the island) and the new setting is stunning. Well worth a visit!
